Capsule Reviews

This is where you can get some quick reviews that summarize my opinion of the game. I own all games that I review, so when I get a new game I'll review it here.

Update 3-3-00

Please note that the reviews are not all complete, but I added lots more and put the complete list of my games in.

10 Yard Fight

This is a simple little football game that was the first on the NES. The graphics are plain and their is a real lack of options. But the sheer fun of 2 players and the easy control interface make this a must have classic!

A Boy and his Blob

A Boy and his Blob takes place on Blobonia. You walk around with your trusty friend blob and give him jelly beans. Each different type of bean turns him into something different to help you out. The play control is a bit slippery, but the backgrounds look great.

AD&D: Heroes of the Lance

This is one of the old Dungeons and Dragons game. It's a platform game that get very confusing. Most of the doors take you to a random room so it's easy to get lost. The play control is also slow and sticky. This is a game that only old school RPG fans would like.

Adventures of Bayou Billy

Not that great of a game, but it's fun just because of the variety. Their's a racing game where you shoot other cars. Then the DoubleDragon-type fighting game which is near impossible. The shooting game is the best, ya have the option between using a regular controller or a Zapper. The title screen pic is the best part :).

Al Unser Turbo Jr. Racing

This is most likely one of my favorite NES racers. Its got about 15 different tracks all around the world and a practice, Grand Prix and other options. It does have constant flicker on the right side of the track (small problem), and gets really flickery if you're near a couple other cars. All in all, if you like racers, get this one.

Astynax

Bad Dudes

Worst framerate ever- the gameplay is so choppy that the 'Bad Dudes' warp around the screen. This makes it very hard.

Bart vs. the Space Mutants

This game trys very hard to be an action and puzzle game. It doesn't work. Bart gets hit once and dies. The play control is crap, and it's got a cheesy story (turn everything purple to stop the aliens???). I guess if you really like the show this game would be entertaining.

Baseball

One of the original Nes games.. it shows. Controls are really crappy, I haven't been able to play this more than 2 minutes.

Bases Loaded 2

This game is only fun when playing with a friend. When your batter runs to first I think it has about two frames of animation. The computer player just sucks. This is the worst Baseball game I've played. Go play R.B.I. Baseball instead - it's alot better than this.

Battlechess

Great animations, and it goes into cutscenes when you get into battle. More fun to watch than actually play chess. You can't change the difficulty either, and it goes slow. If you want a real chess game get Chessmaster.

Battletoads

Battletoads is awesome! The graphics are detailed, colorfull and very entertaining. Two player mode is a blast. This game is very hard though; especialy on the later levels. Playing with a friend may seem to make it easier, but it takes very good coordination to get through levels like the snake area.

Bible Adventures

Get extra credit in Sunday school! An unliscensed game with 3 stories (from the Bible of course) to choose from, like Noah's Ark.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure

The third dimension view is neat the play control stinks. You can only move in 4 directions, which takes getting used to.

Bionic Commando

Here is one of my favorite side scrollers. It is the sequel to Commando, the overhead shooter. Bionic also contains a top view battle area when you run into an enemy helicopter (which, BTW is better than in the original). The bionic arm is a very original and usefull. Get this game!

BattleToads/Double Dragon

This game plays and looks very much like Battletoads. You can choose between Billy, Jimmy, Rash, Zits and even Pimple! In the 2 player mode I prefer having one Battletoad and one Double Dragon because of the variety of moves. A great game for fighting fans.

Captain Skyhawk

A top/back view shooter with above-average graphics. I like how their are also things like landing on the space station and Top Gun - like scenes.

Castelvania 2: Simon's Quest

Simon's Quest adds a new twist to the Castelvania series. It's kinda like Zelda 2 compared to Zelda. Their are RPG characteristics and you can travel left or right.

Castelvania 3:

The third instalment of Castelvania goes back in time to Simon's ansestor Trevor. The grafics are colorful, detailed, and the music fits as always. The biggest problem is that the play control hasn't been fixed; Trevor can't change directions in mid air.

Chessmaster

Just a good ole chess game; plenty of difficulty levels and options.

Commando

Simple overhead game, with the main character being Super Joe from Bionic Commando. Gets quite repetitive after a little playing time.

Conflict

A pure war/strategy game. You get to choose the map you want to play on, which is the game board. Take command over tanks and jets. Each turn you choose what type of vehicle to build. Battles take place in a different screen with text box filling you in on the action (like Dragon Warrior) and animations in a window. The only problem is that the computer cheats soo badly.

Crystalis

Right up their with Zelda in the Adventure department, Crystalis has colorfull graphics and great control.

Days of Thunder

3-d (almost) racing game. It gets very repetitive going around and around watching the other cars pass you up..

Demon Sword

This is one of the crappiest games I have. The little Japanese guy can jump 15 times his height. Just a bad game.

Disney Adventure

Heheheh, Disney. It's totally easy, what else do you expect from them? So you have to find the keys to the magic kingdom 'cause Goofy lost 'em. Their's about 5 minigames which are all different rides: Cars, Train, Spaceship, ehhh, something else.

Donkey Kong Classics

A collection of the original Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. Everyone knows Donkey Kong. DK Junior is where you rescue your father (DK) from Mario by swinging up vines and stuff. Not too bad.

Double Dragon

Defined the beat-em-up game type and started a great series. The two player matches (Street Fighter eque) don't quite make up for the lack of multiplayer in the actuall game. A bit challeging tho, you have to fight two of the fat ugly guys at once for a boss.

Double Dragon 2

A great sequel, as well as the best in the series. Two players can finaly go through it together, and the challenge level is knocked down a notch.

Double Dragon 3

This is where the series gets ugly. The challenge is through the roof. The new moves don't come close to making up for it.

Dr. Mario

Puts a spin on Tetris-type gameplay. Mario throws medicine into a jar and you have to align the colors in order to kill the virus.

Dragon Power

The only U.S. DragonBall game. It's an action adventure where you take control of the hero in a seriously mangled storyline.

Dragon Warrior

Classic RPG with an epic storyline. Ye old English speak gets tho into thy story quite well.

Dragon's Lair

An arcade Laserdisc classic. The graphics are fantastic cartoonish-hand-drawn-stuff. Gameplay is very slow paced, puzzle type. Don't expect to whiz right through, it took me a half hour to enter the castle.

Ducktales

You can expect any Disney game to be easy, but this one is just way too simple! The levels are varied and you can switch to another without completing the one you're on. Fun game just to pick up and play for a little bit.

Dynowarz

Exitebike

Exitebike has got to be one of the best from the classics series. You get plenty of play options (like a track editor) as well as great play control. I always have fun knocking the other racers to the ground by stoping directly in front of them :D. Really, the only thing missing is a mulitplayer mode, a 4 player option would absolutly rule!

Faxanadu

Don't expect to beat this monster of a game any time before you pop in your GameGenie. It's a side scrolling adventure/RPG set in the olden days. The whole game takes place in a huge tree that's beginning to die.. Worth a look- but don't pay over $10 (unless it's complete).

Ferrari Grand Prix

Don't get this game mixed up with Grand Prix, an unrealeased game. It's just a simple racing game, only worth a dollar.

Fighting Golf

I really don't see why this is called fighting golf, it's actually quite peacefull. All tho it wh

Final Fantasy

End all RPG (just look at the name). Extremely customizable, you get to choose 4 different characters, equip them with whatever you can buy. The huge world and long quest will keep you entertained and challenged for a long time. Definatly worth the $20 pricetag (@funco).

Guantlet 2

Ghosts 'N Goblins

Golf

Well, don't expect any high tech fansy options. The name says it all: Golf. Just golf, only golf. Swing and putt. It is still a fun game, in 2 player mode.

Golgo 13

A great Cold War game with plenty of gameplay types to keep things interesting. You see, their was a helicopter crash over the statue of Liberty and the KGB is the prime suspect. Codenamed Golgo 13 must go on a mysterius adventure on the streets, in a helicopter and even in a river! The game was good enough to get a sequel, the Mafat Conspiracy.

Guardian Legend

Gumshoe

Gyromite

Hogan's Alley

Hydlide

Ice Hockey

If you're looking for a fun mulitplayer game, PICK UP ICE HOCKEY! You can choose the size of your players and their country. Playing is easy to learn, fun to play.

Infiltrator

Infiltrator is a fun little game where you walk around the enemy base flashing fake papers, using a mine detector and knocking guards out with gas grenades. You can also try flying the "high tech" helicopter, which is REALLY hard untill you get the hang of it. THe wiersdest thing is that the game was made by one person and his son (or maybe dad). Heh.

John Elway QuarterBack

Craptacular wannabe football game. Don't waste yer pennies on this crapper.

Journey to Silious

Kirby's Adventure

Kung Fu

Legacy of the Wizard

Legendary Wings

Mach Rider

Mario Bros.

Metal Gear

The classic infiltrate and rescue game that introduced Solid Snake. The translations are hilarious: "Uh-oh, the truck have started to move". You have to sneak into the enemy's base (which is like a huge maze) and hitch a ride on their trucks.

Metal Gear 2: Snake's Revenge

A very good sequel. Not quite so bad of translations. Also easier in teh fact that their isn't a huge maze just to get into the base.
