Pokémon Pikachu
Pokémon Pikachu (or Pokémon: Yellow version) is only in Japanese at the moment. Fear not though the English version cometh in September. Meanwhile if you grabbed a Japanese copy (or are stuck on the rom version) This section will point you in the right direction to catch all of the Pokémon this version has to offer.
Starting off
Okay you load up the cart and what do you see. In the previous versions (Blue, Red and Green) the intro featured either Nidorina and Gengar/Jigglypuff and Gengar battling. This time round the spotlights on Pikachu. The intro has the yellow critter leaping into the screen on all four's. Then it goes into cute mode as Pikachu rides his trusty Surf Board then floats up to the clouds attached by balloons. Then the intro ends with Pikachu letting off a thundershock crying "PIKKACCHHUU". From here on the game is identical to it's predecessors. You notice that Ash and Gary have different Artwork but Prof. Oak is still the same.
Your first Pokémon Pikachu
Head into the Grass and Oak will stop you as usual but then he will speak to you then catch a wild pokémon. He leads you back to the lab where your rival is waiting. One pokéball lies on the table. After a lengthy conversation you will approach the table and try and get the pokéball. Your rival will then push you out of the way and get an Eevee. Prof. Oak calls you over and you get the wild Pokémon he just captured, Pikachu. You will then battle Gary's Eevee. Once you ahve won/lost you msut egt oaks parcel then start your adventure

Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle
Charmander
After Nugget Bridge, there is a guy standing on a raised bit of land. If you
talk to him he'll ask you something.
Choose the top answer and you get a Charmander. Wow beats restarting your game any day.
Squirtle
Gain the thunder badge in Vermillion city and talk to the police woman in the centre of Vermillion (Jenny). Choose the top option and get a Squirtle.
Wow that was easy.
Bulbasaur
Get Bulbasaur by going to the house where he is AFTER getting the 8th badge and/or getting 80 Pokémon
Trading Pokémon
The Game has dufferent trainers for trading pokémon here are ones that have been discovered.
Machamp - In the tunnel that goes between Vermillion and Cerulean, in the
north entrance, a kid trades you Machoke if you give him Cubone.
When traded, Machoke evolves. You got yourself a Machamp.
Mr. Mime - In the house near Digletts tunnel. Go to the house and trade the boy Clefairy.
Rhydon - Trade the old guy in Cinnabar island Laboratory a Golduck to get Rhydon.
Dewgong - Trade the woman in Cinnabar Lab a Growlithe.
Parasect - Trade the guy in Fuschia city watch tower a Tangela.
Surprises in the game
I don't want this guide to give away EVERY secret this game has to offer (of which there are many). As you play you'll notice Gary evolving his Eevee randomly. At several points in the game Pikachu your li'l bud will do unexpected things. In Pewter City talk to the Jigglypuff and Pikachu will fall asleep (Awwww).
Team Rocket also make their first appearance in any Pokémon game (Jesse, James and Meowth). The unknown dungeon has undergone a face-lift and now has a new layout and different pokémon.
Also catch pokémon you could never even dream of catching wild. Gyarados and Dragonaire can be caught WILD now, WOWEE.
Afterthought
Basically this game is everything that it can be. Pokémon learn different moves, different areas, loads of secrets including the opportunity to print off Pokédex pages and rumors of new minigames. These are in the Japanese version however. The English version will feature GB color enhancements. Possibly more Pokémon and the rest... we'll just have to wait till September to find out. Pokémon PIkachu shpuld prove adequete to quench your pokémon gold thirst along with the upcoming N64 titles.
