Pokémon Tips/Tricks
FOR BLUE/RED VERSION

Location of the 5 moon stones:

  • In the upper-left-hand corner of the first area of Mt. Moon.
  • In the basement of the Game Corner in Celadon City.
In the bottom right area of Route 2 (you need to have CUT).
  • In the burnt down building on Cinnabar Island, check the pillars (face it and press A) on the
    first floor.
  • Go into Mt. Moon, then go right before the Super nerd (you fought him to get a fossil,
remember?) Look to your right, there should be a passage. Press the A button at the end and it will say you found a moonstone!

Safari Zone at the beach:

  • Waste time in a patch of grass where the safari pokèmon you want lives.
  • When the time runs out, SURF to seafoam, and surf on the coast. You'll fight the Safari pokèmon from that zone.
  • You can also FLY to Cinnabar and SURF along its coast.
Get Missingno, the missing number pokèmon:
  • Talk to the old man in Viridian City and answer no.
  • Fly to Cinnibar
  • Surf along the coast
  • You should eventually run into a M or a Missingno.
  • Note: Can (will) mess up your game. Throw Missingno out to fix the game.

Missingno, the item dupicator:

  • By fighting and running from Missingno, the amount of your 6th item becomes increased.
  • Use with TM's, nuggets and rare candy!
Pokemon over level 100:
  • By doing the missingno cheat, some pokèmon over level 100 will appear.
  • These are the only pokemon that you can catch this way.
  • If you start a new game, they will be different.
  • A level 160 Wartortle was caught this way.
Very thirsty people:
  • If you go to Celadon City's large Mart ,on the roof should be vending machines. There should also be a girl saying she's thirsty.
  • Buy her some drinks and she'll give you something in return. Each different drink will give you a different TM.
  • The TMs are, TM13, TM48, and TM49.
  • Make sure you buy lots of extra waters for the guards that won't let you through to Saffron and other towns.
  • You can also give drinks to your pokèmon if you're low on potions.
Training tricks:
  • The best place for experience is the Cerulean Caverns. All the pokèmon give you 800+ experience, except ditto. -also known as the unknown dungeon.
  • To get a weak pokèmon to level up, put him in front, then switch it for another pokèmon. Each pokèmon will get half experience points.
  • Don't teach TM's to pokèmons who learn it anyway.
Fishing follies:
  • You can fish in very weird places, fish in statues and through the heads of the trainers in Misty's Gym.
  • If you hold A, or rotate the control pad while holding A, you'll have a much better chance of catching fish.

Flower Power:

  • Stand on a Tree: Cut a tree down, walk on where it was, save, restart, you'll be on a tree.
  • Cutting Grass: You can cut patches of grass. (They will grow back.)

Spirit of the computer:

  • You can find it in the upper right-hand corner of the Celedon Hotel.
  • This ghost computer works just like a normal computer!

Special stone evolution:

  • Some pokèmon will only evolve when you use certain stone on them. There are 5 different stones.
  • Fire stone: Vulpix evolves into Ninetales. Growlithe evolves into Arcanine.
  • Thunder stone: Pikachu evolves into Raichu.
  • Water stone: Poliwhirl evolves into Poliwrath. Shellder evolves into Cloyster. Staryu evolves into Starmie.

  • Moon Stone: Nidorina evolves into Nidoqueen. Nidorino evolves into Nidoking. Clefairy evolves into Clefable. Jigglypuff evolves into Wigglypuff.

The Trading Game:

  • Certain people in the game will offer to trade pokèmon. This is the only way to find certain pokèmon.
  • Jynx: In Cerulean city, go in the house left of the pokècenter. The old man inside will ask for a Poliwhirl in return.
  • Mr. Mime: On Route 2 (go south from Pewter city) use Cut to get to the house south of the Diglett cave. The boy is looking for an Abra to trade for.
  • Farfetch'd: In Vermillion city, find the house right of the Pokèmon Fan Club and north of the gym. The little girl will trade for a Spearow.
  • Lickitung: You can find Lickitung in the Route 12 (East of Vermillion) Observation building (the building with the binoculars). You'll have to trade a Slowbro.

The Evolutionary Link:

  • Some pokèmon will only evolve if you trade them with a link cable. There are four of these pokèmon.
  • When traded , Kadabra will evolve into Alakazam, Graveler will evolve into Golem, Machoke will evolve into Machamp, and Haunter will evolve into Gengar.

Send in the clones:

  • If you're wondering what to do with those fossils you found in Mt. Moon, go to the Pokèmon Lab on Cinnabar island. They'll clone you a pokèmon from the fossils.
  • A Helix fossil will yield a Omanyte while the Dome fossil gives you a Kabuto.
  • To get another cloned pokèmon, use CUT to get into the back entrance of the Pewter city Musuem. A guy will give you old amber.
