NEW EDITION
One of my favorite games of all time, Civilization
II has been re-released in the Multiplayer Gold Edition, which I recently
purchased. This Edition also includes two expansion sets full of scenarios,
icons and ideas - all of which make it easier to create your own world
within Civilization. And of course, the most important thing of all is
that Civ2 can now be played with multiple human opponents over the internet.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS GAME?
As with most good games, the final purpose, or goal
can vary.
In the basic, "traditional" Civ2 game, you start
out with nothing but a lone band of settlers in 4000 B.C. From there you
can conquor the entire planet, or be the first to develop, build and launch
a spaceship to colonize Alpha Centauri. OK, there is a lot of stuff
to do in between - in fact depending on the difficulty level, you may not
even make it past developing the automobile.
If you play a scenario, the "way to win" can
change. It could be based around objectives (i.e. taking certain cities)
or may be one of the "traditional" ways to win mentioned above.
In most scenarios, you will start out with a
pre-built empire that has units and cities already on the map for you to
use.
HOW CAN I LEARN TO PLAY?
Well, I am not currently planning a tutorial, but
there is still a great deal of information out there to peruse. In fact,
the series of Civilization games has always been noted for the excellent
documentation that comes with the game, and the new Gold Edition of Civ2
is certainly no exception - it weighs in at a hefty 272 pages! The Civlopedia,
which can be accessed during game play, is also quite useful and often
invaluable.

ANY QUESTIONS?
If so, you can alway drop me a line at tarvisuomi@geocities.com
I do plan to add an FAQ page containing
more information about this game, so
I need some questions to base this upon!
