Gendou looked solemnly downward at his workers as he put down the phone. For once they were right, it wasn't possible. The last Angel had come and gone. The Dead Sea Scrolls predicted no more. For the first time in his life, Gendou felt a tang of fear in the pit of his stomach.
"Blood Type Blue! It's an Angel!" called Maya.
"That's impossible!!" cried Makoto for the 145th time in his
life since he had joined Nerv.
The worker's eyes became glued to the screen as the giant Angel
loomed into view. It was completely yellow with dark stripes on it's backside.
It had rosy cheeks and small beady eyes. It's tail was in the shape of
a bolt of lightning. It seemed to be saying something..
"Pika! Pikachuuuuuu!!"
"Uff.. Uff... I made it!" Misato ran in, late as usual. "What's
it's status?"
Ritsuko rolled back her chair. "It's coming directly toward
us from the ocean."
"Tell the city to evacuate immediately!" Misato ordered.
Suddenly all screens went fuzzy as the Angel began to concentrate.
"Is that an AT field?" Maya asked. "No.. it can't be.. What
IS that?"
Ritsuko looked at the screens. "I think this is better known
as an AC field."
"What's that?" cried Misakto.
"AC... Absolute Cuteness."
"Misato, the city won't evacuate!" said Makoto, his glasses
flying off as he turned around. "They've all gathered in the streets!"
"The visual's back on, ma'am," Maya informed them.
"It looks like they're following the Angel!" Misato exclaimed,
leaning over the desks to see better. "They look as if they're in a trance!"
Ritsuko nodded. "It's a side effect of the AC field."
"We've got to get the Evas up there or the entire city will
perish," said Misato. "Unit 01, I choose you!"
Ash, Brock, and Misty began walking toward the famous city of
Tokyo 3. Since it was such a big city, Ash was certain that there were
many Pokémon gyms there. He also wanted to see the famous Evangelions.
"Are you sure this is the right way?" Misty asked uncertainly.
"There seems to be an awful lot of craters and boulders lying around.."
"That's just a sign that we're getting close!" Ash said confidently.
"The Evangelion Pokémon are powerful fighters."
Misty looked uncertainly as they passed by a gigantic slab of
metal that had once been part of a skyscraper. "This looks like it was
uprooted by some strange power.. Not any Pokémon attack..."
"Maybe the Evangelions have a different sort of Pokémon power
than normal Pokémon."
Misty looked at Brock, who shrugged. She could only hope that
Ash was right..
Unit 01 was instantly released from its restraints in a surge
of magical pink light. Shinji was then inserted into the entry plug and
the Eva was ready.
"Don't you think we should have more than one Eva up there?"
Ritsuko asked.
Misato nodded. "Of course. Unit 00, I choose you!"
Unit 00 was soon in position next to Unit 01. Both Evas were
whisked to the launch areas. But something was wrong..
"What's that?!" Maya cried. "There's another Eva in Unit 01's
launch section!"
Misato's eyebrows narrowed. "It's Unit 02. How did it get there?
There's no pilot for it! Who's in there!!"
Suddenly a window popped up, revealing the inside of the capsule.
Everyone at Nerv stared at it's occupants as they began to speak.
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all people within our nation!"
"To denounce the evils of Truth and Love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Jessie!"
"James!"
"Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now or prepare to fight!"
Misato looked despairingly at those around her. "There's nothing
else we can do! We don't have time for this! Eva launch, now!"
Unit 02 flew out of the geofront.
James looked over at the screen showing the angered face of Misato
Katsuragi. "Do you realize exactly what you are doing? Do you even know
how to pilot? Can you even synchronize?" the woman yelled.
Jessie leaned forward over James and pushed a button. "There,
now they can't order us around. Let's go, James."
"Right," James said, sounding more certain than he felt. "How?"
"Just put your hands on those handles and will the thing to
move!"
James gripped the handles hard and concentrated on moving. He
closed his eyes tightly until he felt the vibration of movement. A bit
too frightened to open his eyes, James smiled and turned to Jessie. "Is
it working?"
*WHACK*
Stars began to form in James' eyes and he felt a sharp pain
in the back of his head.
"You dolt, we're going backwards!!" Jessie screeched. "Stop
it at once!!"
James gulped sheepishly and concentrated on stopping, letting
go of the handles. Suddenly Unit 02 lurched and crashed to the ground.
Misato watched hopelessly as Unit 02 crashed into buildings,
stumbled, broke telephone wires and began to run backwards again. Whoever
was in that Eva would have to pay..
"Evas are ready and in position, ma'am," Maya informed Misato
cheerfully.
"Finally.. Eva launch now!"
Units 00 and 01 soon disappeared. Misato gritted her teeth as
Unit 02 crashed once more, shattering another building and damaging it's
left arm. Units 00 and 01 were soon seen rising from the ground.
"Shinji, try to take out the Angel with your rifle! Since it
doesn't have a regular AT field, it shouldn't be as well protected. Rei,
back up Shinji in case something goes wrong!"
Shinji grabbed his rifle and began to run with Rei toward the
Angel.
"Look!" cried James as the two Evas rose from the ground. "What
are they doing?"
Jessie peered determinedly at the Eva's. "I don't know, but
they're in our way, right?"
Jessie and James smiled at each other and then opened the connection
between the other Evas.
By the time they were done reciting, the two Evas had passed
Jessie and James and were already attacking the Angel.
"There it is," said Ash, gazing down from one of those cliffs
that he always seemed to find just outside of every sity. "Tokyo 3."
"Look!" cried Misty. "What's that?"
"It looks like.... Pikachu!"
"Pika, pika."
"It's a giant Pokémon," said Brock. "And this time we aren't
at a park!"
Ash fumbled around in his back and then held up his Pokedex.
The red light lit up and it began to speak.
"Pikachu... Angel... A rare... creature... Extremely... dangerous..
Not determined.. if... it is.. a Pokémon... or... an Angel."
"If it's a Pokémon, then I have to catch it," Ash stated. "Pikachu,
go!"
"Pikachuuu..." Pikachu began to cower behind Ash's leg.
"Aw..." Ash took out a Pokeball. "Go, Charmander."
Upon the sight of the humongous Pikachu, Charmander began to
cower also.
"Ash," Misty said. "You may want to leave this Pokémon alone.."
"But I need more Pokémon!" Ash complained. He looked over to
the Angel as it advanced. "I would be undefeatable with this one at my
side."
"Ash.." Brock warned, sensing fear.
Misato breathed a momentary sigh of relief. Her plan was working.
Though the AC field slowed the Eva's actions, the Angel would be defeated
easily.
"Misaaaato!" Shinji's cry rang out through Nerv Headquarters.
It was a terrible cry Misato had heard too many times. Her stomach lurched
impulsively.
"Shinji, are you all right?!" Misato's eyes scanned the screens.
"Shinji! Rei! What are you doing!?"
The Angel was passing directly past the Evas. For some reason,
neither of the units were fighting. Slowly they began to follow the Angel.
"Neither of the Eva's AT fields are up!" Maya exclaimed.
"What's going on?" Misato cried.
"The Eva's are moving by themselves," Rei said calmly and quietly.
"Misato, I can't control it!" Shinji screamed.
Misato's eyes widened. "What happened to your AT fields? Why
aren't they up!?"
"The Eva stopped the AT field! It wasn't my fault!" Shinji looked
ready to cry.
"Hang in there Shinji," said Misato. She briefly glanced at
Commander Ikari sitting high behind his desk. Were the Eva's moving on
their own again?
"Misato, do something! Misat...t...o.. Aw....It's so.. adorable.."
"Mental contamination detected!" Maya exclaimed suddenly. "It's
spreading throughout both Evas!"
Once again, the situation looked hopeless. Misato turned desperately
back to the screens, her mind racing to find a solution.
"Look, Misato... it smiled at me. Isn't it adorable?.. It looks
so cuddly... Come one, Eva, move faster. Maybe it will look our way again!"
Misato's eyes widened further. "Shinji? Rei?"
"Hee hee... Hee hee.." Rei giggled. "How cute!"
"Both pilots seem to be in some sort of trance!" Makoto observed.
"There's no way to stop them."
"Cut off the power supply to both Evas!" Misato cried.
"But the Eva's are the only way to defeat the Angels!" exclaimed
Maya. "If we do that.."
"The Eva's are useless now!" Misato said firmly. "We'll have
to just wait and see what happens."
"The power supply won't stop," said Makoto. "There's nothing
we can do!"
"That's impossible!" shouted three random nameless people from
their desks.
"The Angel is now directly above us!" said Maya fearfully.
For once, Ritsuko wished that she hadn't destroyed the dummy
system.
"What do we do now?" James asked in a panicked tone. Their Eva
was upside down and stuck between two buildings. The left arm had long
since fallen off and one of the legs was twisted around backwards.
"I don't know!" came Jessie's reply, her voice equally panicked.
"I'm scared!" said James.
"My hair's imperfect!" said Jessie.
The two clung together and began to cry as the Angel came closer..
and closer.. and closer..
Ash stood before his cowering Pokémon like a master before his
slaves. "We have to catch that Pokémon! I want all of you to give it your
best shot! A simultaneous attack is our best option. Go, now!" He pointed
dramatically at the Pikachu Angel.
None of the Pokémon moved.
"Arrr!!" Ash growled. He stamped his foot on the ground.
"Aw.. isn't it adorable?"
Ash turned to Misty. "Huh?"
"I didn't notice how cute it was until it came this close!"
Misty's eyes began to grow foggy. "How sweet!" She clasped her hands together
joyfully.
"Misty, this isn't the time for it.." Ash rolled his eyes and
looked at Brock, seeking support.
Brock's face was beet red and his tongue was hanging from his
mouth. "Ulgggggeeee...."
Ash glanced downward. "If no one will help me, then I'll have
to just trust my luck!" He pulled an empty Pokeball from his pack and turned
to face the Angel.
"Pikachu!" The voice came dreamily to Ash. "Pikachuuuu!"
"Follow you? But.."
"Pikachuuu!" the Angel winked happily at Ash, who suddenly realized
that all his Pokémon were scrambling toward the it.
"Wait!" Ash called.
"Pikka, Pika!"
Ash looked up at the adorable Pokémon. It was so cute and fuzzy.....
so tempting to follow...
He had to have it. Ash threw the Pokeball at the Angel and crossed
his fingers.
"That's impossible!" Makoto cried for the 146th time in his entire
life since be had begun working for Nerv.
"It just disappeared..." Misato gazed at the screens for a moment,
waiting for something to happen. Nothing did.
"It looks like the Eva's have stopped moving," Ritsuko said.
"The AC field is gone."
"Shinji, Rei can you he ar me?" Misato cal led.
"Misato, what happened?"
"I... I don't know.."
Ritsuko looked up at Gendou and Fuyuzuki. For the first time
she saw a look of relief cross their faces. Had they been frightened? Had
this been unplanned?
"The Angel's gone," Misato said. "We're safe for now."
Ash, Brock and Misty began to walk toward the next town. Tokyo
3 had been a bit too much for them. With their new Pokémon, they would
be invincible and it didn't matter whose gym they went to, now.
"That was some catch, Ash," Brock congratulated. "I don't think
I've ever seen a Pokémon like that before."
"And it's so adorable!" squealed Misty, still tr y ing to get
over the AC field.
"Uh..."
"How could you have possibly let someone else capture that Pokémon!?"
Once more James felt something hard hit his head.
"This stupid machine was supposed to be invincible!" Jessie
continued to scream. She dropped to the floor of the capsule, defeated.
"And all this anxiety is making my hair frizzy!"
