The ZRF Scripting Language
(25/04)
A collection of discoveries and pieces of advice for ZRF as an addition to the official reference.

The Game Cabinet

Abalone
(with board graphics)
The famous classic: Push your opponent's marbles off the board.
The branching factor in this game is high. Give Zillions appropriate thinking time.

Dragonchess
(with graphics & music)
A complex three-dimensional chess variant invented by Gary Gygax. When given enough time, Zillions plays it well.

Congo
(with graphics & music)
A chess variant invented by Demian Freeling. A lot of interesting tactical possibilities derive from the Drowning Rule.

Chad
(with graphics & music)
A quite abstract form of Chess invented by Christian Freeling. The right of mutual capture is very limited which strongly emphasizes positional play.
(In Chad and Congo I used graphics taken from Mindsports.net.)

Bombalot
An interesting game with some similarities to Ultima, but with a different goal: You must reach the opposite side of the board with two pieces.
Although already simplified, move generation takes a noticeable amount of time.
At least most of the rules are implemented now.

GrandChess
I merely made this one to compare it with the engine of the stand-alone program also sold by Zillions Dev. My impression is that they are comparable in strength, which is not surprising, they base on the same engine. Both enjoy giving check too much in the endgame, though, when they should just finish off the opponent.

Omega Chess

Omega Chess is a very popular large chess variant. Even some Grandmasters recommend this game. Read reviews and strategies at www.omegachess.com.
This version hopefully fixes the problems with the wizard squares and should finally work correctly now.

eXchange
A simple game very similar to Halma.

King's Palace
(with graphics)
A game for 2, 3 or 4 players. You must get your King to the Palace in the centre and prevent your opponents from doing the same.
In games with more than two players, ZoG always believes that all players unite against it.

Jetan
aka as Martian Chess. Invented by E.R. Burroughs. Pieces move in combinations of directions.
This is a new version of the game. It has been found out that some piece names and movement rules were wrong in the first version. I also changed some of the original rules where I thought it made sense, and used a new graphic set.
The rule changes were inspired by an article about Jetan by Taylor Kingston which you can read here.

Jetan as a whole still needs a lot playtesting in order to make sure the game is really balanced, so this is probably not the final word on the topic.

Amazons
An interesting game of territory invented by Walter Zamkauskas.
On the original 10x10 board, Zillions is almost chanceless, but on smaller boards it plays much better.
