"Shark, be quiet. Everyone in here is better then you, and your the newbie" I yelled.
"MC, don't talk to me newbie" he responded.
The argument went back and forth. Half of the players got disturbed and left. It was down to 4 players in the game. Now, I didn't get too mad until shark claimed he could beat me easily. This set me off after him arguing with all the players. So, I challenged shark to a 1 on 1 in TF. Shark agreed to a 1 on 1, but not in TF. Now what I don't understand is why someone would come to a game, in which they have no skill at, raise hell, then challenge someone to a 1 on 1 in a complete different game. Seemed to make sense to shark. He claimed he could beat me at anything, so I decided to test this out in the game we were currently in. Turns out I killed him 8 times in a row, without resupplying.
After more arguments, I finally took Groundshark's challenge to play on "his turf." This was a big challenge on my side, considering I hadn't played Quake:DM in about 4 months. I was used to the mechanics of TF and Quake. So, I accepted the challenge and named the map. I chose DM6. Of course groundshark did not like this idea of playing DM6. He wanted to play the infamous Slipgate map (otherwise known "the newbie map"). I myself hated that map, due to the newbies "over-playing" it. After I declined his challenge, he went back to his old self claiming he was the best, and everyone else was a newbie. I got to the point where I could no longer bear it. Finally, I agreed to HIS choice of map, in HIS choice of game. Somehow, I do not know how it would settle the dispute over TF, by playing in a non-TF game, on a non-TF map. Despite the irrelevance, I was ready to splatter the newbie all over the wall.
To my surprise, groundshark actually had a room all set. I went in the room, and tried to convince him to change the settings, but that didn't turn out. So there I was, playing in shark's choice of game, shark's choice of level, and shark's choice of settings. So, the game launched, and the challenge officially started.
I entered the game just in time to hear the sound of Shark grabbing the super powerups. I played smart, and held back until I heard it wear off. Once it did, I jumped out and unloaded my weapons at him. Shark went down fast, putting me ahead 1-0. I loaded up with more powerful weapons then spot shark again, and dispose of him easily. I find him respawn nearby, then put yet another frag on him. I was ahead 3-0. Shark couldn't handle this, so he claimed his lag was acting up. I checked the pings and my ping was higher then his, so I didn't see the problem. Like before, it wasn't up to me, so shark told me to host and immediately left the game.
I met back up with shark in the lobby, then I made the room. I set the settings, but of course shark had an objection. I set it to everything he liked, then he clicked in. By this time I was tired of giving in to shark's demands, so I changed the map to DM6 then immediately launched. The very second I got in the game I received a fatal rocket from shark. Luck wasn't with me for the first few minutes, because I happened to respawn right by shark three times in a row. He was beating me 3-0. Finally I got a strong weapon, and hunted down shark. I downed shark and noticed him respawn close to me. Shark was like a deer in the headlights. I fired at him and missed. Nearby there was a portal, groundshark saw this as his only hope. He jumped in the portal. Just before I went in after him, he came back out, then went back in...... then came back out..... then went back in. It was obvious he was waiting for me to go through the portal so he could get a telefrag kill on me. Well, for my amusement, I just stood back and watched him go back and forth. Shark seemed to be enjoying himself, so I walked around the room and collected ammo. This went on for about a minute or so then I quickly jumped in the portal. Next thing I saw was "Groundshark was telefraged by MC." I found that rather amusing, but it wasn't as funny as me putting frag after frag on groundshark. The game went on and somehow shark actually put some kills on me. Most of his kills where respawn kills and telefrags but the end result was 10-9 with MC coming out victorious. Shark was in denial, and claimed he did not know the map. He must have been smart if he didn't know the map, because he always seemed to find the weapons and secrets.
Well, shark figures he should get yet another chance. So he challenged me once again to slipgate. Of course I took the challenge, and we entered the game. In that game it came clear to me why ground liked slipgate. It was because he needed the powerups to win. Shark immediately went after the powerups, and got two kills off me in no time. I started arguing about how cheap it was, and then 3 people entered the game. The genius shark forgot to lock the room. I went on to explain to shark why he was an annoying newbie, in hopes of him learning his mistakes. During my explanations shark went on to frag the other three in the game. After 10 minutes of play shark finally spoke.
"I have 20 frags and you have none, I win 20-0."
This was extremely funny in my mind since he only actually killed me twice, then I not playing the rest of the game. Shark was so happy about his win, he found it fit to goto the lobby and spam about his "victory."
Now, let me tell you, people in lobbies don't like to hear others brag.
"Hey guys! I beat MC 20-0!" Groundshark screams.
Everyone in the lobby ignores him.
"HEY DID YO HEAR ME?! I BEAT MC 20-0 in SLIPGATE COMPLEX" Groundshark repeats....... Once again everyone in the lobby ignores him.
"Hey guess what" Shark continues.
"Shut up shark, we don't care" Someone from the lobby responds.
This reminded me of a little kid in a store asking his mom for this toy, then the mother says no. in other words shark went off pouting. This wasn't the end. Shark figured he should private message me and tell me about his victory.
While making shark further annoyed, I discovered shark was not aware of "muting private messages." So, I sent shark a PM after every time I see that he has closed the message. This went on for at least 50 messages, until shark got irritated and logged off.
That ends this weeks newbie of the week. Congratulations Groundshark.
