History: Silver Sable was born to Ernst and Anastasia Sablinovia in the Balkan nation of Symkaria. Her father was hand-picked by the then-current king to create and lead the Wild Pack, a group of professional soldiers whose job it was to hunt down Nazi war criminals. When Sable was seven years of age, she happened upon a group of undercover Nazis who were plotting to kill her father. When the Nazis attacked, Sable watched her mother die in the crossfire. Sable began to train in weaponry and hand-to-hand combat in preparation for the day she could become part of the Wild Pack. At the age of 12, her hair changed from brown to silver.

Silver Sable joined her father's Wild Pack at the age of 17, although she was successful in killing their target, a momentary distraction on her part critically wounded her father. Returning to Symkaria, the king gave Ernst Sable a castle, now known as Castle Sable, and promoted Silver to second-in-command of the Wild Pack.

Later, Ernst Sablinovia left Symkaria to track down his wife's killer. Silver and the Wild Pack caught up with him in time to see the villain kill Ernst Sable and escape with the body. Believing her father dead, Sable assumed command of the Wild Pack and later officially changed her name to Silver Sable.

Over the years, as the number of former Nazis dwindled, Sable turned the focus of the Wild Pack more and more toward mercenary endeavors, until the group became the major source of outside income for Symkaria. Under the auspices of Silver Sable International, the organization apprehends wanted criminals and recovers stolen property for a wide spectrum of clients, from major insurance companies to small nations.

Once, on a mission against a garrison of Russian troops, Silver Sable was targeted for assassination. The assassin, the man known as the Foreigner, killed the Russian troops instead, sparing Sable's life and saying he could not kill such beauty. He helped Sable and the Wild Pack defeat the Russians and escape. Sable and the Foreigner soon developed a romantic relationship and were married. The two even began working together on several missions for Silver Sable International. However, the Foreigner would continually refuse to share his own missions with Sable.
The problem came to a head when Sable was hired to protect the president of the United States and, unbeknownst to her, the Foreigner was hired to kill him. Sable thwarted the Foreigner's plans, unmasking him to discover his true identity. Using a hypnotic trick, the Foreigner escaped. The couple were soon divorced, and they began a deadly game between themselves, each trying to kill the other; however, the attempts have gradually become more akin to a never-ending game of "tag," albeit a very deadly one. On at least one recent occasion, Sable was willing to set aside their personal "death feud" to aid her ex-husband.

Silver Sable has long maintained an amicable relationship with Doctor Doom, the ruler of the neighboring country of Latveria, and the two meet at least once per year in an annual dinner.

One of Sable's contracts was the apprehension of the

international jewel thief the Black Fox and the return of valuable gems in his possession. Working with the New York City police, the Wild Pack nearly apprehended him, only to be thwarted by the inadvertent actions of the hero Spider-Man. Eventually, Spider-Man recovered the jewels but allowed the thief to escape. This was the first time Silver Sable met Spider-Man face-to-face.

Silver Sable International was later hired by a small South African country to neutralize the international terrorist Jason Macendale, known as Jack O'Lantern, suspected of training rebel forces within the client's borders. An initial team of Wild Pack members was ambushed by Macendale's men and nearly killed, leading Silver Sable to enlist aid from Spider-Man. During the course of these events, Sable became involved in a daylight robbery that resulted in the death of a young woman, an innocent bystander accompanied by her young son. Sable dropped her other activities to hunt down the killer. His trail led to an abandoned building, where Jack O'Lantern chose to attack Silver and her men. During the final confrontation,
she chose to concentrate on the killer, enabling Jack O'Lantern to escape.

Spider-Man then agreed to help Silver capture Jack O'Lantern. They tracked him to Coney Island Amusement Park, only to be ambushed by the group of costumed criminals called the Sinister Syndicate, who were hired to kill Macendale's pursuers. They nearly succeeded but were stopped at the last minute by the villain-turned-hero, Sandman, who allowed Sable and Spider-Man to escape. After a long battle, the three managed to defeat the criminals, but nothing was found to help them locate Jack O'Lantern. In return for his services, Sable offered Sandman a position in her Wild Pack.
Silver Sable returned to her mercenary activities. Often, she has elicited the services and/or assistance of other costumed heroes/vigilantes, such as Spider-Man and Paladin. She formed a short-lived superhuman offshoot of the Wild Pack called the Outlaws, featuring Sable-associates Rocket Racer, Will O' the Wisp, Prowler, Sandman, and Paladin. (Some time later, Sandman would lead Sable's elite superhuman force, the Intruders.) Sable also hired the hero Battlestar to serve in her Wild Pack.

On one mercenary adventure against the terrorist organization HYDRA, Sable met once again her mother's killer, Ivan Trefkov, and learned that her father might still be alive. Trefkov escaped with his offshoot of HYRDA, the Genesis Coalition. Sable made tracking down the Coalition her top priority, and in the process,

she clashed with and earned the enmity of the vigilante Punisher. After some time, the Coalition sent the mercenary Deadpool to kill Sable, although she defeated him. Later, Sable's former ally Dmitri escaped from the hands of the Coaltion and returned with Sable and the Wild Pack, only to be defeated by Sable's father in an armored battlesuit. In reality, this was Fritz Sablinova, her father's twin who used his father's likeness to serve as occasional leader of the Wild Pack. Fritz had set up the Genesis Coalition to combat HYDRA from within, but eventually went mad with power and turned to terrorism himself. Sable found her father, kept alive by Fritz and the Coalition, and managed to escape to kill Trefkov. Fritz was ultimately killed by the Foreigner, to Sable's chagrin, who then swore to kill the Foreigner in retaliation. Returning to Symkaria, Sable renewed her relationship with her father.

At one point, Sable's long-time lover, an American named Jacques, was accused of treason. Sable elicited the help of Foggy Nelson to clear Jacques' name. At the same time, she learned that the Foreigner was behind a embezzling scheme in an attempt to gain control of Silver Sable International, which she thwarted.

At one point, Silver Sable was diagnosed as pregnant, and she kept the information the secret from her advisors and teammates. She nevertheless tried to undertake a personal assignment to protect Japan against a terrorist threat by the criminal Hammerhead, only to find herself hampered with her new concern for her unborn child. Sable managed to free herself and, with the aid of the Wild Pack, defeat Hammerhead. Sandman had since discovered Sable's secret, confessing his knowledge and the fact he had come to love her. Sable soon discovered that her diagnosis was a computer error. Nevertheless, she decided to retire from active duty, quitting the Wild Pack and vowing to lead a normal life.

Sable's father resumed leadership of the Wild Pack. As Sable monitored the team's progress, however, she felt compelled to step in and take an active hand in leadership once more, stating that the team was like a family to her and was where she belonged. Presumably, Silver Sable continues leading her Wild Pack in mercenary endeavors.
