Sound/Music 9 - The music in this game is very good. I probably would have rather heard some rave techno (i.e. Tempest 2000) but that is just my preference. Instead pulstar features eerie, spacey light techno that is not too obtrusive. The sound on the other hand is awesome. It features very good gun noises and blasts, not to mention explosions one would expect to be good. Overall this game has very good sound and music.
Control/Gameplay 10 - Most reviews you will read say this game is insanely difficult, and will mark this game down because of that for some odd reason. I think that is a reason to give it a higher rating since that is something a lot of neo geo games lack. Since all neo geo games are direct arcade translations, pressing start is the equivalent of inserting another quarter. since eventually you are going to have to stop churining in quarters in the arcade, that in my oppinion adds to the difficulty of a game. but by the time a game makes it home it has unlimited continues. granted this makes a lot of games easier that is just not the case with pulstar. The game is still very challenging and keeps you playing for hours.
Overall 9.6 - When one mentions "shooter" to a real neo geo fan tales of narrow escapes from enemies and victorious battles with the bosses will pour from their mouths. That is the magic that the legendary pulstar has captured and one must play it to believe. You should probably be a hardcore to semi hardcore shooter fan before attempting this, because it is very difficult to play. However, pulstars main drawback is the fact that it is next to impossible to find. It took me 2 months of searching everywhere to track this game down. I even considered paying $120 for it! this is for the CD mind you! finally i was blessed by a miracle when i finally found someone who would sell it for $50. Seriously if you can find this game, at any price (maybe not $120 for the CD but who knows...) buy it. believe me it is shooter paradise, made by the creators of another awesome shooter "R-Type"
