Sound/Music 10 - The music in this game is very good. It features music very similar to Samurai Shodown (many aspects of this game are similar) but many stages feature ambient background noises (again like samurai shodown...) The sound is something completely different. Sword clangs from blocking hits, punches, kicks, yells and screams from characters. They all sound perfect. It is the most mood setting sound and music i have heard in a game. The sound and music is perfect.
Control/Gameplay 10 - The control in this game is also perfect. The slashes are easy to pull off, and unlike Samurai Shodown there are only 2 slashes and 1 kick button. Now don't get me wrong, my constant comparing this game to Samurai Shodown is purely because the atmosphere on the outside feels like Samurai Shodown. The game is absolutely nothing like it. There are 3 different modes of fighting your character can use and the modes completely change how a character works. And there is the addition of one thing that completely differentiates the two: the deflect button. This button (D) when pressed puts your character into a defensive position that, if timed correctly, parries your opponents blow and gives you a split second to attack back. This adds a whole new level of skill and strategy to the the game and makes the game require some skill. If someone who has never played before picks up the controller and plays an experienced veteran, he/she will be thrashed around like a ragdoll. You really need to know what you are doing in this game. One problem i have with this game is some characters are very unbalanced. Actually only two that i have noticed: Mukuro and Akari. The reason i say Mukuro is unbalanced is because his moves (on any mode) do sooo much damage. One move on power where he charges forward and bites you takes away about twice as much life as Setsuna's 7 hit combo (on speed mode) thats twice as much damage in one easily executed move! i think that is a little much... The reason i say Akari is unbalanced is she has this one move (i think it is Duck + Punch) where she spins her rod above her head. It does about as much damage as two strong hits and you go flying. It is very difficult to tell where it is coming from to block it. Those are the only two gripes about any of the characters that i have found. This game plays awesome and the two character gripes i have should be easily detectable if a person is trying to cheat you, so don't let it take away fromt he fun of this awesome game.
Overall 10 - This is the best 2D fighting game ever created. Don't let anybody tell you different. This game takes skill strategy and planning which is something i have never seen in a fighting game to date. This game is fairly easy to find, since it came out very recently, so that is not an issue. Beautiful graphics and sound compliment awesome gameplay that any sword fighting game fan will worship. Two words come to mind when i see a fighting game fan that does not own this: get it. 'nuff said.
